Social media has become an amazing resource for recipe development, fashion trendspotting, and—perhaps most notably—fitness inspiration. Also known as #fitspo.
Seemingly every day, a new Instagram trainer pops up on the scene, filling her feed with motivating quotes, toned shots of her abs, and a commitment to fitness that just doesn’t seem to quit. And while the dedication can be motivating when you’re three episodes deep in a Netflix binge, it can also sometimes be discouraging. (Why do they always look so perfect post-sweat?!)
But trainer Jen Widerstrom has taken to Instagram to showcase the truth behind the smoke and mirrors that is Instagram filters and posts.
Her picture, which features two side-by-side photos: one taken from the side in a relaxed, seated pose, and another in full “mirror selfie” mode—AKA the pose that allows you to flex all your muscles, pop out a hip, and look perfectly toned all at once.
The post’s caption reads: “Oh oh it’s magic, you knowwwwww. We all look like this when we sit. Don’t stress about the way your body looks in certain positions. These photos were taken 2 minutes apart!”
Angle—plus excellent lighting and posing—is everything, proves Widerstrom. Let her selfie truth-telling be your newfound inspiration.
